Doodling in the digital age

This photo is taken from a recent New York Times post, click here to see more pictures from The Haunted Household. Doodling on photos is almost a universal childhood favorite. Is it important to help our children to start doodling digitally?

I really like the story "The Haunted Household". But these pictures were not created by children, were they? In general, I think that it is important for children to learn how to use their own hands before they learn how to use the computer. Let them doodle on some real photos first, they will learn how to doodle digitally early enough.

I also liked the pictures. Especially the dust ball made me laugh and although I agree with Mareike in her argument that children need to learn to use their hands before they learn how to use the computer, I am still wondering whether it is important to teach them how to doodle at all. Isn't this something they just do without having been explicitly taught?

I agree and want to add that there might be a lot of "stuff" already out there (like blogs, photo albums, doodlings ...) - you may want children or youngsters to think again why they want to put things out there ... and where they could cut back a bit ....
