Wii Sport: School sport in the future?

What is Wii Sport? With the "Wii Sport" you can do sports at home in front of your TV. You can do it alone, with friends or your family. And you can choose many kinds of sports for getting in shape.

Some facts: Wii Sports & Fit Set of Nintendo costs 299,99 € as a set. "Nintendo Wii" included Wii Sports and Wii Fit and additional Wii Sports Resort with Wiimotion Plus. That's a perfect start to shape your body and stay fit. You can do good exercises with the Wii Fit Board. The additional Set (8-parts) makes Wii Sports more realistic then before.

The set includes the following equipment: Nintendo Wii Konsole includes Wii Sports and Sports Resort, 1x Wiimote, 1x Wiimotion Plus, 1x Nunchuk, Wii Fit includes Balance Board, and an 8-part additional Set.

What activities can you do? For example: You can do jogging and balancing exercises, yoga and physical exercises. More entertainment exercises are tennis, golf, bowling, fishing, dancing and so on.

Advantages are: No monthly payments for a gym or other institutions; no additional costs; no travel time; you can do it anytime and you have no time restrictions.

Disadvantages are: You have to be very disciplined to get in shape, but most people are lazy. Next point is you don't have a real trainer/coach to correct your mistakes.

Can Wii Sport replace sports and exercise? What do you think?

This is a good bargain! I think the whole set is a bit more expensive in HK. You are right, I was quite disciplined to get onto my Wii Fit in the beginning, but then I got bored with the activities. But Wii Sports Resort is really fun, particularly when I can beat everyone on the Sword Fight!

Funny thing: Nunchakus are officially banned in Germany - thanks to Wii you can choke gleefully away !

I don't have a Wii, but friends of mine do and so I spent some afternoons and evenings playing the Wii.

Next to sports there are so many games that are also educational like Trivial Pursuit, which is more interactive on the Wii than the real board game.

We tried out many games and every game is different so as a learner you have to go through a tutorial and you have to read the games in order to understand how to win. I believe many video games involve more cognitive effort than most people think.

Wii-Sports is a great invention, although I don't really agree that it can replace 'real sport'.
I see it more as an addition to social life activities: Anyone can take part and you can have fun together at any time. We even played it with my parents, one New Years Eve.
